Hi, I'm Theo Wayt, a business and tech reporter based in New York City.
I'm currently a Knight-Bagehot Fellow in Economics and Business Journalism at Columbia University, where I'll be studying full time until May 2027.
Usually, I'm a reporter at The Information, a news site focused on ambitious journalism about the tech industry. I've had stints covering SpaceX, xAI and Tesla at the height of Elon Musk's power, as well as Amazon, online retail and logistics in an era of trade wars and Chinese competition. I especially enjoy deeply reported stories about technological and financial ambitions colliding with physical and political realities.
My reporting has been recognized by the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing, and I've appeared on programs like NBC Nightly News, BBC News and American Public Media's Marketplace to discuss my work. I've also been a frequent columnist for The Information's newsletters and a regular guest on our streaming video show. Before joining The Information in 2022, I was the sole tech reporter for the New York Post's business section, where I covered the rise and fall of grocery delivery and transportation apps in the city, among other topics.
